Wayther: Your Ultimate Road Trip Weather App

Wayther, a new iOS app, is transforming road trip planning by offering real-time weather updates and road conditions along your route
July 10, 2024

Road trips just got a lot easier and safer with the launch of Wayther, a new iOS app designed to provide real-time road conditions and weather forecasts along your route. Developed by indie creator Axel Le Pennec, Wayther offers weather forecasts up to 10 days in advance, making it an essential tool for travelers seeking a smooth journey.

Le Pennec, who has been building iOS apps since 2013, was inspired to create Wayther after incorporating a weather forecasting feature into his digital boating log book app, Skipper. "I realized that the weather feature in Skipper could be expanded into a standalone app useful for truckers and travelers," Le Pennec said.

Wayther stands out by allowing users to select different routes and adjust departure or arrival times to find the ideal travel window. The app eliminates the hassle of inputting multiple locations into a weather app, providing a seamless way to predict weather conditions along the entire journey. Users can identify severe weather alerts, poor visibility, and night driving conditions, and plan trips during scenic times like sunrise or sunset.

After entering your starting point and destination, Wayther offers three route options and delivers detailed weather forecasts at various points along the way. The app's interactive map provides an overview of the trip and a detailed timeline, ensuring users are well-informed throughout their journey.

Available in all countries where Apple Weather operates, Wayther supports both metric and imperial units. It's versatile enough for car trips, motorcycles, RVs, trucks, buses, and bikes.

Le Pennec revealed that this is just the beginning for Wayther. Future updates will include features like adding stops, viewing route history, saving favorite routes, and receiving live updates while driving. He is also awaiting authorization from Apple to develop a CarPlay version and is working on better OS integration with widgets, Live Activity, and Siri shortcuts. Additionally, Le Pennec plans to expand language support to include French, German, Spanish, and Italian.

Wayther offers a free trial allowing users three free trips. After the trial, subscription options are available at $1.99 weekly, $2.99 monthly, or $14.99 yearly.

Wayther's innovative approach to road trip planning makes it a must-have for anyone looking to travel safely and efficiently, ensuring you always have the latest weather information at your fingertips.
