Deezer is stepping up its game in the music streaming arena with the introduction of its innovative “Playlist with AI” feature, allowing select paid users to generate custom playlists simply by entering a text prompt. This exciting new functionality was announced on Monday and is set to offer a fresh way for music lovers to curate their listening experiences.
This launch comes on the heels of similar initiatives by Spotify and Amazon Music, both of which have recently begun testing AI-driven playlist generators. YouTube is also exploring a prompt-based AI radio feature, signaling a growing trend in the industry.
For now, Deezer is rolling out this beta feature to 5% of its paying subscribers, who can create playlists based on descriptions of moods, genres, decades, activities, and more. Whether you’re in the mood for an early 2000s pop-rock workout playlist or a feel-good selection from the 2010s for your study session, Deezer’s AI will have you covered.
To ensure a safe user experience, the app screens prompts for inappropriate content, including hate speech and harassment. “We’re thrilled to introduce this AI-powered feature to Deezer users worldwide,” said Alexandra Leloup, VP of Product at Deezer. “From workouts to romantic evenings, our Playlist with AI feature curates a personalized musical journey in seconds, unlocking endless possibilities to discover new music.”
The technology behind this feature is powered by Google’s Gemini 1.5 AI model, enhancing Deezer’s existing capabilities. The platform has been utilizing AI for various purposes, including its popular Flow feature, which mixes tracks based on users' moods and preferences. Additionally, Deezer’s Song Catcher, reminiscent of Shazam, employs AI to identify songs.
While the broader rollout date for the Playlist with AI feature remains undisclosed, this initiative marks another step forward for Deezer in the competitive landscape of music streaming. As the industry embraces AI technology, listeners can look forward to more personalized and engaging ways to enjoy their favorite tunes.
