On Monday, Apple launched the first version of its highly anticipated Apple Intelligence, a suite of AI features designed to enhance Siri, auto-generate emails and images, and streamline notifications. This innovative software is now available to registered Apple developers via the developer beta of iOS 18.1, as well as in similar releases for iPad and Mac.
Currently, access to Apple Intelligence is exclusive to registered developers, who pay an annual fee of $99. To use the new AI features, users must join a waitlist through Apple's settings app after updating their devices, as the service requires communication with Apple servers for complex requests.
While the public release is scheduled for later this year, the 18.1 version indicates that Apple Intelligence will not be available with the initial rollout of new iPhone hardware, expected to run iOS 18 this fall.
Apple Intelligence represents a significant strategic move for the tech giant. Investors are optimistic that the seamless integration of AI with Apple's operating systems will drive a wave of device upgrades in the coming years. This system will only be compatible with iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models and newer, emphasizing the exclusivity and advanced capabilities of these devices.
Bank of America analyst Wamsi Mohan expressed confidence in the longevity of the upcoming iPhone cycle, noting that the continuous improvement of AI features, both in software and potentially hardware, will keep consumer interest strong through 2025. As Apple continues to innovate, the market eagerly awaits the public release of Apple Intelligence and its impact on the future of iOS devices.
