In the ever-evolving world of consumer tech, generative AI has faced its share of disappointments, with products like Humane’s AI Pin and Rabbit R1 failing to live up to the hype. However, Google's latest offering could change the narrative. Announced at the Made By Google Event, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 aims to push the boundaries of what smart earbuds can do by integrating advanced AI capabilities.
Building on the foundation of the original Pixel Buds Pro, these new earbuds feature the innovative Gemini Live AI, designed to revolutionize how we interact with digital assistants. “With Gemini Live, you’re not just having a conversation with your earbuds; it feels like chatting with a trusted colleague,” Google said. This AI assistant can handle a wide range of queries and support more immersive, contemplative dialogues, even when your phone is tucked away.
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 mark a significant leap forward. They leverage Google’s Tensor A1 chip, a first for the Pixel Buds line, which allows for a 27% reduction in size while enhancing processing power and battery life—up to 12 hours on the earbuds alone and 48 hours with the case. Google has also improved noise canceling with their Silent Seal technology, promising to eliminate up to twice as much background noise as before.
Adding practical features, the new Pixel Buds Pro 2 come with Google’s Find My Device, helping you locate them if misplaced. Priced at $229, they will be available starting September 26.
With these enhancements, Google seems poised to set a new standard for AI-powered audio devices, blending cutting-edge technology with practical usability. Whether this will mark a turning point for generative AI on consumer hardware remains to be seen, but the Pixel Buds Pro 2 certainly signal a bold step forward.
