X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, is stepping up its security game with the introduction of passkey support for Android users. This update follows the rollout of passkey functionality for iOS users earlier this year, marking a significant enhancement in account protection.
Passkeys offer a more secure alternative to traditional logins by eliminating the reliance on passwords, which can be vulnerable to phishing and other attacks. Instead, passkeys use biometric data like Face ID or Touch ID, a PIN, or a physical security key to authenticate users. This added layer of security ensures that even if someone were to gain remote access to your account, they would still need physical access to your device to log in.
This move aligns X with other tech giants that have embraced passkey technology, including Apple, Microsoft, Google, and Amazon. For X users, the introduction of passkeys comes as a welcome change, especially after the platform discontinued SMS 2FA for free accounts last year.
To enable passkeys on X, simply log into the app, navigate to “Your account,” then “Settings and privacy,” followed by “Security and account access,” and finally “Security.” Under “Additional password protection,” select “Passkey,” and follow the prompts to set it up.
This update not only strengthens security but also aligns X with the latest industry standards, making it easier for users to protect their accounts from unauthorized access.
