Elon Musk’s X, formerly known as Twitter, is setting its sights on a new frontier: video conferencing. As it aims to challenge established players like Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams, X is gearing up to unveil its own video call tool.
Chris Park, an X employee, recently shared that the company has already conducted its first internal conference using this new feature. Initial feedback has been positive, with suggestions for improvements such as pinning speakers and refining notifications for participant activity. Musk's enthusiastic response to Park’s update, marked by a fire emoji, hints at the company's commitment to this new venture, despite X's current policy of not responding to press inquiries.
According to app researchers, users will soon be able to create and schedule meetings directly through the X iOS app, mimicking the functionality of other conferencing tools. There might also be a feature allowing hosts to generate unique access codes for each meeting.
While X’s video conferencing feature is still in the testing phase, the platform's existing live video streaming capability through Spaces suggests a potential integration of these tools. However, X will need to address privacy and security concerns before the full rollout, especially given past issues with its calling feature.
As X continues to innovate, the upcoming video conferencing tool could reshape how users engage with the platform, potentially offering a unified solution that bridges social media and professional communication.
