Apple has introduced a new AI-powered feature in its latest developer betas for iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS 15.1 that’s sure to excite photo enthusiasts: Clean Up. This innovative tool allows users to effortlessly remove unwanted objects from their photos while preserving the rest of the image. Whether you’re dealing with an unsightly background element or an accidental intrusion, Clean Up enables you to select and eliminate distractions with just a tap.
Apple’s Clean Up feature leverages advanced AI to intelligently reconstruct the background after removing an object. The system even accounts for shadows and reflections, ensuring a seamless and natural result. This update follows a similar feature introduced earlier this year by Google Photos, known as Magic Eraser, which also offers object removal capabilities.
Since July, Apple has been rolling out its suite of Apple Intelligence features in iOS 18.1 developer betas. This collection includes enhancements such as writing tools, SMS and Mail notification summaries, natural language search in Photos, and transcription capabilities for calls and voice recordings in Notes. Currently, Apple Intelligence features are available exclusively to English-speaking users in the U.S.
With Clean Up, Apple continues to enhance its photo editing capabilities, providing users with more control and precision in managing their digital memories. As AI technology evolves, features like these are set to transform how we interact with and perfect our images.
