Honor Takes on Samsung with Slim Foldable

Honor is ramping up the competition in the foldable smartphone with the launch of its latest, the Magic V3
September 6, 2024

Honor is making waves in the foldable smartphone market with the launch of its latest device, the Magic V3, which just debuted internationally. This marks a significant step for the Chinese tech brand as it aims to challenge Samsung’s dominance in the rapidly expanding foldable market. Already released in China, the Magic V3 is now set to compete in key global markets, offering a sleek design and cutting-edge features that make it stand out.

One of Honor’s key selling points is the slimness of the Magic V3. When closed, the device measures just 9.2 millimeters, noticeably thinner than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6, which comes in at 12.1 millimeters. Honor is clearly positioning this as a premium option for users who want both style and substance in their next smartphone.

Beyond its design, the Magic V3 is packed with AI-powered features, reflecting a broader trend in the smartphone industry to offer more advanced functionality. A standout feature is Magic Portal, which allows users to seamlessly drag information across apps. Whether it’s dragging an address into Google Maps or a picture into a Google search, this feature is designed to enhance multitasking and productivity.

The Magic V3 isn’t Honor’s first foray into foldables, but it’s clear the company is betting big on this segment. According to Counterpoint Research, global foldable smartphone shipments surged by 48% in the second quarter of 2024, and Honor is looking to capitalize on this momentum. With a focus on regions like Western Europe, Asia Pacific, and Latin America, the company is expanding aggressively. In fact, Honor overtook Samsung in Western Europe for market share during the same period—a significant milestone for the brand.

The Magic V3 will be available in several key markets, including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, as well as in the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and Africa. As competition heats up—with Google also releasing a new foldable device last month—Honor is aiming to solidify its place in the premium smartphone space.

Since its split from Huawei in 2020, Honor has been rapidly expanding its international presence, unshackled from U.S. sanctions that affected Huawei. With the Magic V3, Honor is clearly positioning itself as a major player in the foldable market, and it’s a device that could appeal to users seeking innovation and elegance in their next smartphone.
