CMC Networks Ensures Business Continuity Amid Cable Damage

Connectivity barriers in the farthest reaches, CMC Networks introduces a dynamic trio of orbital constellations
March 20, 2024

In the ever-evolving landscape of digital connectivity, CMC Networks emerges as a beacon of resilience and innovation. As the recent incident on March 15, 2024, brought about a major internet outage affecting West and Central Africa due to submarine cable damage, CMC Networks swiftly responded to the crisis, deploying a sophisticated array of satellite connectivity solutions across South Africa and the Middle East.

CMC Networks, renowned as a global Tier 1 service provider, has fortified its arsenal by integrating Low Earth Orbit (LEO), Medium Earth Orbit (MEO), and Geostationary Orbit (GEO) satellite connectivity into its suite of offerings. This strategic move transcends conventional limitations, catering to the diverse connectivity needs of remote regions and challenging environments, while ushering in a new era of uninterrupted digital transformation.

The recent calamity underscored the vulnerability of submarine cables, vital conduits for international internet connectivity. Four out of nine subsea cables linking South Africa with the global network suffered damage, disrupting internet infrastructure significantly. However, armed with multiple submarine cable systems, CMC Networks adeptly rerouted traffic, bypassing the outage and ensuring uninterrupted service delivery.

Marisa Trisolino, CEO of CMC Networks, emphasized the company's commitment to spearheading digital transformation across Africa and the Middle East. The addition of LEO, MEO, and GEO satellite solutions enables seamless connectivity, irrespective of geographical constraints or network disruptions, thereby bolstering business continuity and resilience in the face of unforeseen events.

The trio of satellite constellations deployed by CMC Networks heralds a new era of connectivity solutions. LEO satellites, positioned just over 1,000km above the Earth's surface, offer ultra-low latency connectivity ideal for high-frequency trading and other latency-sensitive applications. Meanwhile, MEO satellites, orbiting at 8,000km, deliver fibre-like broadband performance, catering to enterprise-grade networking needs. GEO satellites, stationed 36,000km away, provide reliable connectivity for less-latency-sensitive services such as broadcast TV and low-speed data communication.

Geoff Dornan, CTO at CMC Networks, emphasized the necessity of diverse connectivity options in today's mission-critical networking landscape. With a proactive approach to network resilience, CMC Networks offers a robust framework of LEO, MEO, and GEO satellite solutions, empowering enterprises to navigate unforeseen challenges with confidence and adaptability.

As businesses strive to maintain uninterrupted operations amidst a rapidly evolving digital landscape, CMC Networks stands as a steadfast partner, providing innovative connectivity solutions tailored to meet the dynamic demands of the modern era.
