Empowering African Youth in Web3: A Strategic Partnership for the Future

The DLT Africa Developer Program aims to empower 3,000 African youth with Web3 skills, fostering innovation and digital growth
June 18, 2024

In a groundbreaking initiative to nurture tech talent across Africa, The Hashgraph Association (THA), a Swiss-based organization, has joined forces with Adanian Labs and The Africa Blockchain Centre (ABC) to launch the DLT Africa Regional Developer Program (DLT-ARDP). This collaboration aims to empower over 3,000 aspiring Web3 developers across the continent.

The DLT Africa Regional Developer Program is designed to provide participants with cutting-edge knowledge and best practices in blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT). The Hashgraph Association will offer access to the latest industry trends, while Adanian Labs will contribute its deep expertise in smart technologies and program development. ABC will ensure the program resonates with regional needs and challenges, facilitating student outreach and fostering a profound understanding of blockchain's potential to address local issues.

Kamal Youssefi, President of The Hashgraph Association, highlighted the significance of this partnership, noting, “This expands on our other strategic partnerships across the continent, as showcased recently during GITEX Africa 2024. Funding and partnering with Adanian Labs and The Africa Blockchain Centre is key to empowering the youth and fostering a digital future for all in Africa.”

Targeting tech-savvy students in Kenya, Nigeria, Malawi, Rwanda, and South Africa, the DLT-ARDP will equip participants with essential Web3 skills. Upon completion, students will receive certifications from The Hashgraph Association, recognizing them as Hedera-Certified Developers (HCD). This certification underscores their readiness to contribute to the burgeoning Web3 industry.

Bendon Murgor, Chief Technology Officer at Adanian Labs, emphasized the program’s importance: “The DLT Africa Regional Developer Program is a testament to our commitment to fostering smart technological innovation and talent development in Africa. Through this initiative, we aim to equip the youth with the necessary skills to thrive in the digital economy.”

The program offers a comprehensive curriculum that covers the fundamentals of the Hedera network, including tokens, consensus mechanisms, smart contract development, and decentralized applications (dApps). Participants will gain hands-on experience and deep insights into blockchain technology, preparing them for promising careers in the Web3 sector.

To showcase their skills, participants will compete in a hackathon held across the five countries. This event will challenge them to develop innovative solutions that could revolutionize various African industries. Winners will receive valuable resources to kickstart their blockchain projects and the opportunity to participate in an Entrepreneur Exchange Program (EEP) with Switzerland, further enhancing their global exposure and entrepreneurial skills.
