As Paris gears up for the 2024 Olympics, a new report by SmartCIC Technologies reveals that visitors and enterprises can expect blazing-fast 5G speeds in the heart of the city. The comprehensive study, leveraging advanced AI and extensive real-world testing, predicts top-tier 5G performance across Paris, with central areas poised to deliver exceptional download and upload speeds.
SmartCIC Technologies, a global authority in enterprise-grade wireless testing and AI, undertook an extensive evaluation of Bouygues Telecom, Free, and Orange 5G networks. The findings indicate that while no single provider dominates Paris entirely, Bouygues Telecom shines in central Paris with peak download speeds reaching an impressive 661.6 Mbps and upload speeds hitting 161.62 Mbps. These speeds are expected to enhance social media engagement, video streaming, and various enterprise applications throughout the Olympics.
The testing involved collecting data from over 10 million points during a week-long drive, covering diverse routes and parameters such as congested areas, high-traffic Olympic sites, and commercial zones. This meticulous approach enabled SmartCIC to predict network performance across Paris with a remarkable 96% accuracy, and a peak accuracy of 98.9% when compared to real-world results.
“Our tests show that Bouygues Telecom leads in central areas and larger neighborhoods, though it faces connectivity challenges in some suburbs. On the other hand, Free and Orange offer the most consistent performance city-wide,” commented Toby Forman, CEO of SmartCIC Technologies. “These results underscore the variability in 5G performance across urban landscapes, highlighting the importance of predictive analytics for detailed, localized insights.”
The report also highlights that Free provides the highest stability for both download speeds and latency, while Orange excels in upload speeds. In areas where Bouygues operates, it outperforms both Free and Orange, offering 15-25% higher download speeds and 100% lower latency compared to Free, and 40-50% higher than Orange.
“Our real-world tests and AI-driven insights confirm that Paris is ready to handle the substantial network demands of the upcoming Olympics. Each provider has strengths in different areas, supporting a wide range of consumer and enterprise needs,” added Forman. “For instance, Free’s stability in downloads and latency is ideal for social media and VoIP calls, whereas Orange’s superior upload speeds benefit large file transfers for businesses. The diversity in 5G performance across the city calls for nuanced visibility to optimize different use cases.”
